White plastic in shifter **** broken. How to replace or take out?

I bought an automatic 1985 camaro that I'm restoring. Everything is coming out good except one thing... The **** where I switch gears is broken. When I bought it, it had the circular **** with the push button, but it was broken off. And I noticed that the button where you press in the **** is has some plastic stick (The plastic broke from the button and won't work to connect to the rest of it) going into shifter. (sorry if something doesn't make sense im 15 and never dealt with this problem haha) How can I take out the plastic and put in a new one?

just did this on my sons 85 iroc. had to buy the new piece off ebay. it was used. Mine was stuck in there pretty good. it did pull out though. Dont loose all the pieces that hold on the shift ball. Not so easy to find anymore. here is pic if the link still works.

Did you just yank the plastic out? And I have a brand new one to put on, I just didn't have a clue if I had to just pull it out or take apart everything to just take it out haha. Tomorrow I'll change it. Thanks man!
