Technically correct original 87 Camaro steering wheel?

Interior is the last restoration frontier I have yet to master. I just came across a nice 1987 IROC parts donor car at a pick n pull. The car looked original and unmodified. I got lots a great stuff from it. I need a technically correct steering wheel. This car had a perfect and column and wheel but the wheel had the square padded type (not 1990 airbag type). I have it in my head that type came on an 86 or 88 not an 87. I always thought the 87's had a round horn button. I'm kicking myself for not snagging that steering wheel and thinking about going back tomorrow to get it.

Can anybody tell me the correct wheel for my car or was there more than one possibility and if that is true than what RPO code should I be looking for to know which one my car was built with. Thanks

3 spoke, round horn cap with emblem in center. Like this...

The square center is out of a different year or model.

The 3 spoke wheel was used in 82-89 z28/iroc z cars. The rectangular horn wheel was used in 82-89 sport coupe/rs cars

Ah Hah! This makes sense because I have seen both wheels in the same year car. The pick n pull parts car was an IROC and had the square horn pad wheel which confused me, but that doesn't mean it was the original I guess. I've had to replace an entire column and wheel because car thieves smashed thru the column. These cars are pretty easy to steal. (I highly recommend using a Club or other security).

OK so not to sound like a jerk and not that I shouldn't believe what my82roc has said because it makes sense. But I've gotten conflicting answers on many things in these threads. Can anybody second or confirm this info?

You can take that info to the bank.

BTW - you ain't kidding, when mine was new it was stolen 11 days after I picked it up at the dealership - took a month to get it fixed & back after that.
