This is for a 92 RS

Mine crapped out quite awhile ago so I rigged it up to where I could just shut the rear hatch and open it with my key. I decided I wanted it to work again so I found an entire new/used unit on ebay. Bolt it down and plug in that one 5 wire connector. Shut the hatch, and the motor pulls it down like it's supposed to, sweet. Try my key and it opens up just fine. Close it again and push the button inside the car and the motor goes up, then right back down and doesn't release the hatch at all. (hope that makes sense)

Any ideas why when I press the button the motor goes up and down without releases the hatch?

Sounds like you need better struts.

 

Struts are pretty much brand new, only couple months old. Hatch pops up just fine when I open it with the key.

The motor moves up then immediately down when the button is pressed, but it isn't releasing the hatch when the button is pressed.

 

Mine is doing the same thing. I figured it was the spring in the latch.
