Shifter Cable detachment Question

I am restoring the interior on my 89 Firebird, I was wondering how I removed this cable connected to the shifter with a plastic nut.

It looks as though the plastic nut should pop off but am worried I will break it if done incorrectly.

I can see the other cable is just held by a cotter key and will be easy to remove.

Inserted picts.

Thanks,

Vogue

Re: Shifter Cable detachment Question

IIRC I'm pretty sure that snaps off,put a screwdriver behind it and pop it off.
