Re: Shifter boot

I made a new one for my camaro. I removed the old one, and carefully cut the threads along the seams to separate the four pieces. Using those as a pattern, I cut out new pieces from some red suede and black fake leather. Sewed them together on my wife's machine and reattached to the shifter plate. It's not perfect as my sewing skills need practice, but came out looking a lot better than the original.

Re: Shifter boot

Mj,
Do you know what seller or what to search for to find another one? I haven't been able to find a leather shift boot for an automatic.
Jharrison,
Let me know if you have anything for sale, too.

Re: Shifter boot

nice! Looks like you had to modify the shifter base plate, how much did you cut out and what did you use to make a nice cut in the plastic shifter base?

Re: Shifter boot

Yes, modified.Never measured I just matched the length of the window to the shifter & the edge the same width as the section between window/boot.Its all hand cut w/ an exacto knife, filed flat.

Re: Shifter boot

I'll update with pics later, but if you're wanting to add a shifter boot to an automatic in the Camaros (almost Firebird/Corvette style), there is a way to do it and still retain the shift position indicator. I did it to mine and was actually pretty easy. I just got one off eBay and I think it's from a Firebird but not certain. Basically just sandwich the leather between the plate and the plastic piece glued underneath it (which you'll have to break off and re-glue when you get the leather between it)
