reproduction junk
is there a reason why all the re pop interior pieces for our cars are so cheaply made ? is there a reason why the aftermarket industry cuts corners to the point that their offerings are laughably un usable.. i am not the only one who has noticed this . can they not make parts EXACTLY as OEM ?? i know if a company stepped up and made things right once, they would re coup their investment and then some. so lets hear your horror stories about the parts you have purchased AND THEN found them to be not quite right

Re: reproduction junk
Some examples (with photos) would definitely help save people money on bad repros.

Re: reproduction junk
Yeah I'd like to know as I'm starting a resto and don't want to waste money on aftermarket. Even though I'm going as much oem as humanly possible.

Re: reproduction junk
its like this for me .. i will pay twice as much for a good used OEM part. for my builds. i have seen what companys like OER and the like offer. and i just cant sell any of it . do a comparison , say between a OER door panel top trim piece . and a OEM one . and you will see just how pitiful that junk is

I have to agree with the door panel top plastic trim. When I bought my 86, the previous owner replaced them with reproductions. They were not right. They were made out of this cheap plastic and had a rough texture to them. Swapped them out with my oem set from my 85. The drivers side has the common crack by were it passes the dash pad but I'll take them any day over the reproductions.

Be careful of aftermarket "GM Restoration" emblems. The font is really off. I also found the 85-87 IROC-Z center caps don't have as much gel coat on them. The originals had a slight bubble effect where the gel coat sat taller than the plastic rim of the cap. The repros are flush.

Re: reproduction junk
Most restoration parts offered for our cars are sub-par for a quality restoration. It's the same story for many "modern classic" cars. Except the G-body guys, they seem to get some nice stuff.
