Dash fitment.

Hello. Ok I have an 82 Trans Am. The body shell is rusted out really really bad but everything else is really nice. So I bought an 86 trans am pretty well stripped but SOLID body and clean title. It's even same color. I am transferring everything over to it. Fenders, suspension, rear end, motor trans. Anyway I bought a new carpet for the interior. So my question is will my 82 dash bolt into the 86. I'm talking the entire dash assembly not just the dash pad. Any knowledge about this would be helpfull. Thanks.

Re: Dash fitment.

Yes it should. The size and look of the dash assembly and interior changed, but the mounting points are still the same. However the electronics, such as the instrument cluster, will not hook up the same. Firebirds switched over to electronic gauges in '85 so your '82 gauges will not work with the '86 harness.

If you are changing all the hardware, engine, electrical, computer, trans, as jharrison says, you must transfer the wiring, or buy a new harness. but be sure it is for the original running gear.
