rear facing infant car seat

so here in about a month my gf and i are going to have a baby boy, and i was wondering is there a good and good fitting rear facing infant car seat one that will fit my 3rd gen, and my other question is would it be possible to install the car seat directly to the floor of the car for added security, any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: rear facing infant car seat

I have a seat that has a base that permanently stays in the vehicle that the seat unclips from/to and also into a stroller. The base stays in the SUV, but the seat (only used it without base) works fine behind the pass seat with it pushed fully forward. Fastened in with the standard rear belts. The older cars don't have seat belts designed for baby seats (the kind you pull out fully then retract it and it locks in place), nor do they have the little metal tabs for newer seats. But the clip doesn't allow the strap to pull free. I adjust the strap to where it takes some strength to clip it into the clasp and I feel kiddo is safe. Another thing to consider is the sun. I personally have t-tops, but even with the sun behind you, it tends to be right on the baby. Mine doesn't want the shade over her so I had to fasten some cloth over half the rear window to keep her shaded.

Re: rear facing infant car seat

Damn, and here I went ahead and bought 3 nos seat belts thinking they were worn out because they didn't lock when pulled hard or all the way out. Oh well, at least the fabric looks better than the old units.
I bought new ones for my 2yr old, my wife and me...it's kind of unnerving thinking there is no passenger air bag and no locking belt for my wife.

I would not but a rear facing car seat in these cars. Only if it is your absolute only option!
The narrow rear seat bottoms most likely won't hold the base level or square, the lack of locking belts, the front seat backs would probably always interfere with the seat causing you to sit up on the dash.
