Help! Firebird radio pod fastener and strap

I took this apart 1.5 years ago, and was a pretty good boy about bagging and tagging everything, taking lots of photos, etc.

But this one has me stumped. There are two 10mm bolts that hold the top of the radio pod to the dash frame. I wasn't sure what this was until I tried to reassemble it...10mm bolts! OK, but where does the strap go to? One of the fasteners for the HVAC control head? And which side? Or something else?

Help!

Re: Help! Firebird radio pod fastener and strap

I just removed my radio pod this weekend and reassembled it for heater core replacement. My car is from Canada, 1988 AC Delete with AM/FM Cassette. Mine does not have that type of bracket. I have owned the car from new and only I have worked at it so its not like someone else would have removed it and tossed it. I spent years in the 80s putting stereos in cars from my home and I can add that some stereos units were heavy and had extra supports to hold them solid. The 1988 F Body pod is not a really that solidly built so possibly that AM/FM CD player you have needed the extra bracket. Sorry I'm not more help. Glen

No problem Glen. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on it.

It may not have been original to the car. I don't know. It might be something the dealer added to compensate for all the cracks and damage to that pod. The older gentlemen who I got the car from was the first owner, and he had his dealer do everything.

Either way, I could not make it fit with all the extra reinforcements I had put it, so I left it off.

I'm happy to report it's the only part I have left after the job is done.
