Trip odometer sticks..?

When I first got the car (1986 IROC) running the trip odometer worked fine. Now after I reset it to 000 it gets to 0.6 and sticks there?

Possible causes?

Don't punch the reset button too hard.

I broke my trip odometer when I had it face down on the work bench. I wanted to punch myself in the face when it broke.
