89 gta trans am hatch will not latch shut. the pull down motor is working like it should but the d loop acts as if it out of alignment all of the sudden!!! It's been working fine until today! Without my ta I've got no vehicle!!!!

 

Had this happen to me. My hinges bent and the hatch was sitting too far back. Unbolted my hatch struts to relieve some stress (be careful, the hatch is heavy) and was able to get the motor to pull the hatch back down.
