87 IROC-Z rear hatch problems
Hey guys...okay so. I went thru a few weeks ago and replaced everything imaginable on the rear hatch motor stuff. The wiring harness, relay yada yada yada and it all works great....except on thing. So sometimes when I pop the hatch...it seems like its not releasing the hatch when it should...and then of course it releases it...but every once in a while the motor will cycle back down...which isnt a big deal, I just take my pinky and press the switch and it comes up...is this bc maybe my struts that hold up the hatch just arent quite strong enough to keep it up that extra inch or so when its initially popped...the struts hold up the back hatch assembly just fine fyi.

Could be. That's how my T/A behaves. It's struts are strong enough to hold the hatch open once I open it, but they will not push the hatch up on their own. I have to help them. This renders the button the dash worthless if I'm alone, but I'm OK with that.

idk mine does that sometimes. but my hatch is also off about 1/2" from the back. its like it gets stuck on the interior trim. don't have this issue when its hot outside. when its hot the hatch just pops up by itself. when its "cold" outside I have to give it a little help.

Yes, mine are weaker in the winter. I think that's just the gas charge in the strut expanding in the summer heat.
