HVAC Blend Door Problem?

Since I'm planning on taking a fairly long trip in my car I'm finally getting around to hooking up my AC since I did the LS1 swap. The main reason it wasn't done before was because the temperature control lever has been ridiculously hard to move. I started taking everything apart today, but I still can't seem to figure out what the problem is.

First of all, fortunately the lever on the bottom of the blend door is still intact. I've read enough threads about that being broken, so I'm glad that's not an issue. I disconnected the cable from the lever, and found that it was extremely easy to move the temperature selector back and forth when it wasn't attached to the lever. The cable looks to move in and out freely.

Then I took the cover off the box the covers the heater core, blend door, etc to see what the blend door was doing. It was pretty difficult to move the blend door although it did seem to travel through it's full range. It was even especially difficult to move the blend door with the lever.

I'm thinking something with the blend door is binding although I really can't see too much of what's going on with it up under the dash. Has anyone else had this problem? The last thing I want to do is continue to try to force the temperature lever and break the lever on the bottom of the blend door.

Re: HVAC Blend Door Problem?

does it have metal hinges? maybe oil them if it does? I'm about to do my heater core and my blend door will need and receive some attention when I'm in there. let me know what you come up with

Re: HVAC Blend Door Problem?

It looks like it has a metal rod the goes vertically on the door on the side it pivots on. I really can't see at all what's going on at the top or bottom of that door though. Without taking the entire box out I doubt I could get to it unless I'm missing something.
