Potential 5$ fix to Pivot pin 7 o'clock tilt steering issue
Hi all.
I thought I'd post this in case anyone wanted a temp. solution to the 7 o clock tilt steering wheel issue caused by the loose left hand side pivot pin.
I went to orchard and bought a brass sheet 4 x 10" that's 0.005" thick.
I then cut off a small rectangular peice that will fit around the pivot pin and smashed it in. I'm going to set the tilt and forget it and hope it lasts me a while. Also will be making sure I don't use the wheel to get in/out of the car.
Here's some pictures ... not the nicest looking but it's super tight now and doesn't move at all...

What's at 7 o'clock? The pins are at 3 and 9, so I have no idea what you're talking about

Re: Potential 5$ fix to Pivot pin 7 o'clock tilt steering issue
Here's a few threads on the matter and some links of oversized pin sellers. Navy02ws6 is right. The issue is that the steering wheel moves down about 1/2" in the 7 o clock direction the springs back up. The issue seems pretty common on these tilt steering wheel setups found in GM, Jeeps, and not sure what other vehicles.

Re: Potential 5$ fix to Pivot pin 7 o'clock tilt steering issue
Has anyone else did this? How long did it last?
I'm having the same problem and failed VA state inspection. I had other issues with the column and replaced it with a rebuilt unit. That column fixed most problems but left the 7 o'clock tilt intact. The housing looks like a couple hundred which I would like to keep in my pocket if this is a good option. For reference, this is not a daily driver but I do intend to drive it regularly when it finally passes inspection.
