Rear Lid Won't Latch but motor runs

My rear hatch quit pulling down so I pulled the fuse real quick to keep the motor from running. With no power the hatch will at least manually latch but it obviously will not pull down all the way.

I reinstalled the fuse and pulled the rear panel off. With power applied the hatch will not latch or pull down. With power off (disconnected plug or pulled fuse) the hatch will catch and latch but it will not pull down.

I was going to buy some parts from Hawk's but I'm not sure if I need a full rebuild kit or just the guides?

Guides will not help the hatch motor "pulling" the decklid closed. When the guides break they usually cause the motor assembly to rattle or get jammed. ( & that could lead to a stripped gear. ) In your case I'm guessing either the plastic gear is stripped ( most likely ) or the plastic motor housing is busted. It's also possible that you could also have an electrical problem - only you will know once you remove and inspect the match motor.

I've got a couple fully functional hatch motors so If you find you need a replacement - fell free to send me a PM.

I had the same symptoms on my Camaro two weeks ago -- $9 plastic gear nut fixed it. The gear part on my nut mine had completely separated, leaving my gear sitting at the bottom of the motor assembly.

Yours could need something different, but a quick disassembly and visual inspection should tell you what you need. In the meantime, you can put one of the mounting bolts back in the body, and simply zip tie it to the striker on the hatch to keep it closed.
