Help with hatch pull down motor..

Figured out why my battery has been going dead. I noticed today that when my rear hatch is shut the motor pulls it down like it's supposed to do but every 4 or 5 seconds I can hear it clicking. It sounds like it's still trying to pull down or something. I does this every 4 to 5 seconds.

It must have just started doing this. Anyone ever experience this and any ideas how to fix it or what's causing it?

Thanks!

If its clicking, its possible that the limiter is not functioning correctly and the motor is continuing to pull it down.

I guess you could check to see how much Current its pulling with a multi-meter.

Like the head lights I think its a resistance based system. I can't see much in the way of any kind of computer controls hiding in there.

I plan on buying the TDS pull down rebuild kit. I'm not sure which one I need, I need to take my rear plastics off and take a look at which pull-down my car has. My original one was broke and I *think* when I replaced it, I did so with one from a 91-92 car, and my car is an 89. And there are differences.

Re: Help with hatch pull down motor..

Close inspection revealed a broken nylon guide. I ordered a rebuild kit from TDS. Hopefully that fixes it.

Could be the guide broke because of the run on. The reversing switch on these gets gummed up and worn, doesn't break the circuit. I had to put a manual switch on mine under the license plate. New switch is NLA that I know of. Keep us posted on what you find out. Like to get mine fixed right some day.

Installed the rebuild kit from TDS yesterday and boy, what a difference. that motor works like new. Quick, smooth, and no more clicking. Highly recommended.
