How to permanently select Defrost
How to permanently select Defrost
I bought this 91 camaro and the heater selectors do not work and fan does not turn on i tried everything.
How do i close all vents or make it to where it only comes out of dash defrost?
Ill have to re wire the fan motor to a toggle switch with fuse.

Re: How to permanently select Defrost
Do you want to troubleshoot so it works correct or just give up and hot wire it? Were here to help and I doubt it is broken so bad that it needs to be hacked up. If you want to look into the issue then start by elaborating on the "tried everything" part of your post and we can start. Otherwise grab a roll of duct tape and have at it.
Re: How to permanently select Defrost
I bought this car and drove it home and hour away in the dark with no defrost and almost wrecked so many times.
I checked all fuses (i think)
i do not hear any changes in the selector when changing the flow direction, fan does not power up.
Ac canister has been deleted.
Car use to be a 3.1 v6
now is has a 400hp blueprint 350
so i dont know if vacuum lines was never installed for ac or what.
I am just at lose, wiring seems to be a mess.
No power to radio, hooked up a brand new stereo today and still get no power to the radio.

Re: How to permanently select Defrost
The vac line for the controls exits the firewall near the heater core connections. Have a look in that area and see if you see any small black tubing not connected to anything, it simply needs manifold vacuum.
As for the fan, since no speeds work, there could be a few issues. Motor ground disconnected or poor connection; this is a spade connector on the blower body and is just a chassis ground, make sure it is connected. The power wire to the blower is a large purple wire and has an insulated connector on the blower body as well. Make sure it is connected. If all that is good then check voltage at the purple wire with the selector in vent or an "on" position. Select High fan speed and you should see battery voltage. The lower speeds should show a lower voltage. If voltage is present the fan motor is suspect. If you want to check the motor first you can apply battery voltage to the blower terminal and it should run at high speed. If no voltage is present at the purple wire, two possibilities are fusible links and/or fuse. The fuse powering the low speeds and the selector is HTR-AC and is 25A. Make sure you have power there. The link is less likely if you have no speeds at all since it only provides high speed voltage. Your lower speeds should still work if that were your only problem.
Hopefully there is enough there to help.

Re: How to permanently select Defrost
I was under the impression that the system "defaulted" to defrost when no vacuum is applied. That's how much TA works anyway. So as long as the fan spins up, it'll blow out the defrost vents.
