Hatch pull down
Hatch pull down
Hey guys have an 87 Camaro irocz with the power hatch and it has stoped working and won’t close. So it started comeing up on it own and then I’d put it back down and it work for a bit and then do the same thing. Replaced the motor and caseing still doesn’t work any suggestions thanks

Re: Hatch pull down
Check the small switch on that connects to the motor itself. It reverses the polarity to go up and down when the gear reaches the top and bottom positions

Re: Hatch pull down
When I test the PPD hatch motors on the bench I 'ground' the ground wire, put battery voltage on the power wire, and operate the switch with my finger. Hold the switch down and the motor goes to the "DOWN" position. Let the switch go and the motor raises itself to the "UP" position. Very rarely does the actual motor itself fail; at least not in my experience.
If the PPD motor doesn't work after checking the operation by manually holding/releasing the switch; then the 2 suspect parts are the reversing switch or the relay. You can test/probe the relay with a voltmeter for free, or try swapping the relay first 'cause it's fast, easy and cheap. If those efforts fail then the reversing switch is suspect. If the relay is feeding the switch power - but nothing is happening,..................... ( Obviously any physically broken/binding parts could effect operation. )

Re: Hatch pull down
Motors do go bad occasionally, but in my case it didn't work period. 12V straight to the motor and nada. Turns out one of the brushes had disintegrated. I soldered in a replacement and it works great now.
