I’ve got a 92 started working on. It was in a shop that caught fire. The car was in some heat but the flames didn’t get to it. I can’t get the back hatch open. The key turns but won’t unlock. I tried to get the plastic cover off the inside but it must be attached on the top i can’t get to. Plus really tight fit for me to get to from the back seat. Anybody have any ideas before I cut the plastic away from the inside.
Push down on the decklid while you turn the key. The 92 latch is spring loaded. Sometimes the spring gets lodged just right that it won't let go of the striker. When you get it open, a lite coating of grease on the spring probably would help.
If the key does nothing, it's possible the cable inside is disconnected from the lock. Try the hatch release button on the console.
Lastly, you could try prying the trunk light lens out and look for the slot in the latch. Should be able to turn it with a screwdriver.
