Headliner removal '88 Formula (full roof, not T-Top)
Hi guys,
Couldn't see any existing threads or posts particularly about this issue, forgive me if I missed something.
A year or two back I replaced my car's headliner with an aftermarket one from RockAuto. I was pleased with the item, although it was folded double for shipping to the UK and it never did straighten out the way they said it would. It looks great anyway. However, the headliner itself is not the problem. My seat belt retractor has locked up and I need to drop the headliner again to get at the mechanism to unjam it. I know what to do when I get to it, it's just access that's the problem.
When I fitted the headliner, I had to really shoehorn it in, because I was not able to remove the molded black plastic trims that run up the inside of the windshield pillars and across the (inside) top of the door window apertures. Getting the headliner in was barely possible without removing the trims - but getting it out again is impossible, unless I can get those trims off. I am concerned mainly because I don't know what the fixings are or exactly where they are. I'm sure they'll be brittle after 34 years, and I want to cause them as little stress as possible. I can get the screw out that's at the top of the windshield pillar, (and I'm able to remove the trims that make the back edge of the window aperture). But so far that's as far as I can get. Photo attached clarifies what I need.
Can anyone enlighten me how to go about removing the trims without breaking anything, please?
