Windows strips failed

Hi all. After some advice please.

just got my 85 out for spring. As I used the drivers window, the inner sweep broke (guess it must have been a bit stuck having been lid up over winter).

im in the UK, so need to be sure when ordering parts.

from the pic, number 1 is the bits that’s failed, you can see it dropping down as it travels along the back. Number 2 also seems a bit misshapen.

then parts are both inside the car.

my question is, are parts 1 and 2 a complete set? or do they come separate? What are they called?

and do sets usually come with the outside bits too?

many thanks for any help!

Hard to tell what pieces you're asking about from the picture. Are both pieces you're pointing at on the inside of the window?
The misshapen piece on the door panel top rail and the rubber seal against the inside face of the window are both part of the same piece. These are usually called inner window sweep but they're listed as belt weatherstip / window scraper seal on Rockauto. You will need to take the entire door panel off to replace this piece. If my memory serves me correctly, it is connected to the top rail by melted plastic rivets. You'll have to drill those out and use small metal rivets.
There's a separate outer sweep piece. These are attached to the top of the door with small screws. You might be able to get the screws out with the door panel off and the window all the way down, but it's still pretty difficult.

Re: Windows strips failed

You can get a set of weather strips to do the inner and outer ones for both doors, a set of just the outer ones, and a set of just the inner ones already on the molded plastic piece.

Normally if one of the weather strips isn't in good shape the others aren't far behind it and you live in the U.K. so you got to make the shipping costs count and it's probably not much difference between 1 or 4 weather strips because it's going to be an oversize package.

And no matter where you get it at try to see if they can ship them to you in a cardboard tube instead of a cardboard box. Otherwise they are subject to get bent.

I recommend the FAIRCHILD brand for aftermarket replacement parts; they were always the best when it came to these things. ( door seals too ! ) I have bought their weatherstrip 'window sweeps' several times over the years and they are always high quality. ( shop around using the parts numbers to find the best source / price.)
