1984 Trans Am vent handles under steering wheel stuck ?
1984 Trans Am vent handles under steering wheel appear to be stuck. They only move about 1/4 inch in and out, is this normal ? Seems odd how both don't move much, I don't want to force them and break anything.

I have them in my 82. They normally move about 2 inches. I would work on freeing them up. The vents get stuck with debris and the cables can freeze up a little. I put some spray lithium in mine 15 yrs ago and they've been good. Be careful not to break them, none of the parts are available now. Most cars had AC so there aren't lots of used parts either.

Thanks for the reply, I will take a closer look when I replace the bulbs for the gauges since most appear to be blown.

I had same problem with my '84 Trans AM on the passenger side. i removed parts of the dash. The vent flapper was actually seized to the vent tube. I freed it & lubed & manipulated the cable in & out using its handle. All is well.
