'98 LS1 to thirdgen swap

As of Saturday I rolled my '98 B4C Z28 due to a frayed throttle cable causing the throttle to jam W.O. I was considering sending it to the local college to straighten the frame, but I was also considering doing a swap into my '86 IROC. My question is does anyone know if the engine cradle from the '98 would bolt up under the '86. If not does anyone know if I would need to replace parts like the oil pan and if the cradle won't swap out can I use the motor mounts from the '98 engine cradle.

i think it would need a little more then the frame to be straightened.. was the engine runing when it flipped over still at WOT..

why didnt u just pop the clutch or hit it into N and shut the car off

1st Question: yes I walked away. Kudos to GM for building a tough car. Believe it or not I was not buckled in and was able to crawl out the window you can see in the pic. I took the pic with my cell.

2nd Question: it's not as bad as it looks once it's on it's wheels. The accident only happened within 50 feet stop to stop. I didn't have time to react. I let off the throttle but it (like all chevy's) had a mind of it's own. It only rolled because of the angle in which it hit and the severity of the drop off. And no it was at idle after and I shut it off immediately. The only fluid that made it's way to the top was oil through the throttle body.

bigd_z_28,
Are you sure you are telling the whole story? If it was stuck at WOT then the brakes would easily hold it back from accelerating past 30 or so mph. Also if it was stuck in WOT that means you where flooring it to begin with when it got "Stuck". It is good to hear you are okay but I just don't believe your story. Here's my version of the story, you where flooring it being reckless, doing a burnout, or just messing around and the rear slid out and you weren’t able to recover so the car went into the dip in the side of the road and flipped? Don't blame it on the car.

If the engine was running when it flipped it is no good anyways. All the oil would poor into the cylinders and the oil pump would run dry.

My question is does anyone know if the engine cradle from the '98 would bolt up under the '86. If not does anyone know if I would need to replace parts like the oil pan and if the cradle won't swap out can I use the motor mounts from the '98 engine cradle.
This is answered in the first post on this forum, the LS1 swap question and answer sticky.

wow glad to see your ok man, but i'd highly suggest 1. reading over the sticky for the LSx LTx swap, GREAT info, alot of help and 2. re-building the engine before you swap it in. being turned up side down and running like 89 IROC Z said, isnt exactly good for the cylinders and oil pump. good luck with the swap if you do decide go to that road!
