LT1/4l60-E shifter swap question?
I'm swapping an LT1/4L60-E from a '94 Camaro into my '91 Firebird. I've got the engine harness/trans plug out already, but when stripping the wiring harness in the '94, I noticed that there are alot of wires attached to the shifter. Do I need to swap the shifter and assoociated wiring from the '94 into my car, or will my stock 700-R4 shifter work? Thanks for the info.
swap 4l60E shifter - no, swap LT1/4L60E underdash wiring - recommended
keep the 700R4 shifter. The 700r4 shfiter wires are for starter enable, gear selector, back up lights, etc.
Its best to get the underdash wiring from the LT1 as well if you can. That way you can easily disconnect the engine wire harness if you ever remove the engine again. Also, you'll get the aldl connector which you allow you to program the pcm of the Lt1, if you want to program it.
I think you'll have to splice in 1-3 wires to the 700r4 shifter connector. Depends on how you wire it.
You'll also have to splice into the ignition switch, fuel pump, and gauges.
Check out shbox.com for wiring for 93-97 LT1's. Also, check out the "Lt1 wiring for dummies" thread. Do a search for that.
