LT1 Question
To those who have seen/experianced or heard of this done, How much horsepower can you get out of that engine with the engine and heads bored out? Also can a timing gear, instead of timing chain be put in to this engine?

Car: 1981 Camaro; 1986 Z28
Engine: LT1; LT1
Transmission: 6 speed; 6 speed
Axle/Gears: 3.73; 3.42
These engines can make very impressive horsepower if you have the bankroll to back it.
A timing gear set is not recommended since it will give a fasle knock signal to the computer and thus retard timing.

You can get 400+ rwhp with a well setup heads and cam LT1..
go to http://www.cz28.com/ and look under LT1/4 tech and advanced tech, that will set you on the right path.

The Golen 396 puts out 520 HP if you can afford it. 396 is the largest you can go on the LT1 block. I don't actuually know of any gear drives avalible for the LT1 because of teh gear driven water pump, but if there are, like mentioned above they'll give false knock.
Want to make some real power, talk to these guys:

If you really wanted to get into it, and you could actually find a gear drive set for the LT1 block, you could tune the computer to ignore the false knock, but unless your very good at interperating datalogs and tweaking your PCM with a laptop, you run the risk of desensitizing it so much that it won't sense real knock which could result in engine damage.
