LT/LS Swap guys- Speedo options
I have done the LT1 swap into my 89 Camaro. It has the mechanical speedometer and it won't work with the 93 model transmission. I have searched and found I could use the cable-X system or swap to a tailhousing with a hookup for the mechanical speedo.
What are your opinions on these two items? Which one do you like better? How do they work? What was the instullation like and what was involved?
I got a ticket for 72 in a 45 a few nights ago. I know I was way over because I was hot rodding but I'd like to know how fast I'm going without having to rely on the tach.

You could always swap the cluster. I didn't have any problems since mine was electric in the GTA. When the setup was in my old '86 model which had a mechanical speedo, I swapped the dash harness and gauge cluster for the setup that is in the GTA now.

Was that very hard to swap the cluster and harness? My oil PSI gauge is the only one of my stock gauges that doesn't work now and I have a dual pillar pod with an pil pressure gauge in it.

I was also wondering this. I am in the same situation as you. I was also thinking about getting an aftermarket speedo and mounting it like underneath the vents in the center of the car. I figured that'd be cheaper than getting a cable-x. How does that idea sound?

I would check with Dakota digital or some company like that...I think they may make some type of adapter/converter to go from an electric signal back to a mechanical one.........I have definately heard of this being done when guys put newer drivetrains into older cars like hotrods.........it's certainly worth looking into..

What about this?covans classic
They are available in varying configurations for plug in and custom..
If I had a camaro with an LS or LT swap I would put this in.. In my T/A I have an autometer electric speedo.. I didn't want to goof with the whole cable setup, though I did buy a cable-x converter after looking at it I sent it back it just seemed a bit of a band-aid.. The autometer electrics are adjustable once I set mine it has been dead accurate. Though of course this is not cheap.
