i think an lt1 with a manual is supposed to idle around 800rpm? I'm not sure though. For an auto, idle is supposed to be around 550 rpm.

Check for vacuum leaks. Check for exhaust leaks. Check to see if you have an intake manifold leak by spraying carb cleaner around the manifold.

Do you have a computer and aldl cable? You could download tts datamaster and see what your iac is. 20-40 counts is normal.

Check out camaroz28.com if you haven't already.

Nah, it was idling around that when I started my car up with his computer plugged in.

Sean it's possible that the tune that was originally put on it when you sent it to me the first time that I reprogrammed it with has the idle set at 1k since it was when I started my car up, I didn't want to fool with the idle so I left it alone.

Did it idle lower with the tune I put on it the first time you sent it to me? It should have been around 750 or so, that is the factory setting for stock LT1s with manuals.

Hey guys, I have a 95' lt1 and 4l60e swapped into my 84' camaro, and have a question about idle.

When the swap was first completed the car ran like a champ and had a noticable idle of, I believe, 750-800 or so. However around the first of winter my car ran out of gas, and since then the exhaust note at idle has diminished noticibly and dropped to about 550.

What should it be set to?

Also, I'll be getting a powermaster alternator soon, due to not having the 470ohm resistor wired inline, and its output at idle is rated at 800rpms.

Finally, I'm wanting to do the "Big 3" upgrade, and was considering using 0 gauge. Would this be too large, or just good precaution?

Any input would be great!

A LT1 automatic should idle around 550-650 once it is warmed up. Depends on the tune where the idle is. When the engine is cold it will be a little higher, like 800.

Dont know what the big 3 upgrade is. You could always multiple wires, that would be the same effect as one huge wire.

The "Big 3" is:
Chasis to battery
Engine to battery
Alternator to battery

I would rather have fewer wires and a cleaner engine bay.

Can it be idled up to 750-800, and if so would it hurt anything?

I'm sure it can. The manual LT1's idle around that range. It might jerk into gear harder with a higher rpm for the auto. Might also burn less gas with a lower idle???? I like the low 550 rpm idle, very quiet.
