Casting #'s on an LT1

Where are the casting numbers on the block so I can verify if it is infact an LT1? My friend is going to sell his 85 Z-28 and he says it has an 92 Corvette LT1 and tranny. I want to verify if he is telling the truth before I consider buying it. So where and what do I need to find to see if it is infact a 92 Corvette LT1 and tranny? Thanks!

Easiest way to look and see if it is an LT1 is look for the opti in the front of the motor instead of the distributor in the back. The block castings were the same in both the '92-'97 LT1 and '96-'97 LT4 both 2 and 4 bolt main engines. Block casting is 10125327. Also if it has a MAF it will be a '94+ engine. Aluminum heads for 'vette and f-body but could have been changed. Fuel lines will come in on the passenger side of the fuel rail if a 'vette, '92-'93 didn't have a crossover port in the back of the heads on the fuel rail.

But all of the blocks had the same casting number from '92-97 basically.

Thanks for the info, but where on the block are the numbers? The motor has been modified a little, it has a carburator on it now and some other things. I just want the numbers so I can tell if it is just another 350 sbc or an LT1. Thanks!

On the back of the block same place as on a standard SBC next to where the distributor will be. If the car has a distributor in the back, it won't be an LT1. Even the LT1 carb intake uses the opti in the front. If you go by everything I posted you will be able to tell easily if it is an LT1.
