what do i need to keep from my factory harness?

ok so here is where im at friday the ls1/t56 goes in. on a stand alone wiring harness. 8 wires and it runs. now the stock 305tbi factory harness is all over the place. so i took the liberty of taking all the 305's old sensor connectors out of the harness as well as the fan relay. and i might remove the fuel pump relay as well. do to the fact i have new relays on the ls1 stand alone unit.

now what stays on the factory harness? all i have left for the most part are the fusable links at the junction block by the battery and the fusable links at the starter.

my question is this what does the fusealble links at the start do? i will be running a purple wire from the standalone ls1 harness to control the starter and just one big power wire to the starter.

why are those fuseable links there?

The fusible links provide power for things such as headlight and power for the ignition switch. You will need to keep some of them.

ok cool. i pretty much kept all of them except for one that was connected to the alternator connector that went back to the junction block. but i kept the fuseable link that went from the back of the alternator to the conjuction block.

When I stripped the wiring out of my 87 TA 305 TPI car...I removed almost everything. The entire engine harness as one piece...didnt cut anything. Then on the firewall, coming from the big body connector...I got rid of everything except for the above mentioned power wires that go to the starter...and a big pink wire that gets 12volts with the IGN on and during start. I used the LS1 fuse panels though....so you might need other stuff too. But the LS1 only has a few original wires running around it. Not much left. Made things sooo much cleaner and so much easier to work on.
