Fourth Gen?
Hey im new to the Trans Am and Camaro world, just coming from the DSM world of turbos, any ways i just built up a 383 stroker and want to put it into a third gen but i found a really cheap and clean fourth. My question is will it fit in it like it would a third and would i be better off doing this to a fourth or a third. Please no biased answers I NEED HELP!!!! thanks

LT1 style 4th gen should bolt that 383 in as the LT1 and old small blocks are similar.
LS1 cars it would be kinda dumb to get rid of the ls1 for a 383 gen I motor unless you found a shell/rolling chasis. then u'd probly need to change the motor mounts to fit the gen I 383 to the Gen III mountin points

Sweet. Thats really good news because it's an LT1 with only 95,000 miles and it is for 2500 bucks. No rust, and the paint is extremly nice. Thanks guy i appreciate it alot.

the only problem i'd look out for is the distributor, and ur intake selection. the LT1's sit underneath the windsheild and have no rear distributor. they use optispark. and lt1 intakes are not tall at all. a carbed manifold and carb with aircleaner may have clearance problems, i'm not sure.
clearance with that distributor tho may be a problem! kinda forgot to mention that part.

If you want it fuel injected...You'll have to find a TPI wiring harness or aftermarket harness for fuel injected chevy small block V8. And the computer for TPI or aftermarket fuel injection.
The LT1 computer works off of the cam sensor in the optispark(LT1 distributor). The older SBC's don't have this so the LT1 wiring and computer won't work with the 383 SBC.
SBC's have been put into 4th gens. The top issues that come to mind are wiring, fuel lines, oil pan, and custom motor mounts.
One or 2 people are also trying to make SBC's work off of the LT1 computer and optispark. A custom adapter has to be machined and placed on the front of the engine where the optispark would go. There are a few other issues too but I can't remember.
Go check out www.cz28.com's message boards. More of a 4th gen site.
