New project for my car

Friend of mine sold one of his spare LT1 engines to me plus a few other goodies It's not going to be your typical swap in the sense of, I'll be using an aftermarket computer and doing a few other things to it. The friend has a massive amount of time spent on getting his LT1s to run great and he's helping me out with this one. Probably swap my carb engine out sometime in the summer, it'll give me time to do what I want to do with this new one. If it's going to do what he says it will do, I'll be having a load of fun.

Not sure what it came out of but he said it was fairly low miles. Doesn't need it anymore since he's got 2 other spares. Probably start stripping off what I don't need tonight and going from there.

Re: New project for my car

Hope it turns into a decent performer since my friend's 3520 lb race weight car runs 11's

Took some stuff off it last night and decided to open it up a little bit. The oil was just nasty and coming out in clumps like chunky blue cheese. There was water in the oil cooler lines and the air hoses for the exhaust and only a little bit inside. No sign of rust on anything which was good and the one lifter I pulled looked good. Just have to track down a oil pump drive stub shaft, a 58 mm throttle body and whatever attaches to that. He's got an intake that's already had some work done to it which he can't run in his race class.

Clean that b!tch. Theyre good, very reliable engines. Had one before my LS1 swap. Ran 12.4 with it.

Re: New project for my car

It'll get cleaned up. I'm not sure what to do for my alt and power steering yet, might end up making a couple brackets and a crank pulley for a 2 groove v-belt setup unless I can find one. Mount the alt low and get a type II power steering pump with a remote reservoir. I'm running one of those on my Toyota 4x4, works really well.

Re: New project for my car

The bits and pieces are slowly making it my way. Just brought home this intake from the guy who I bought the engine from. He can't use it since it's had some port work done to it so it's mine now

Re: New project for my car

Doesn't look like the front has been ported to take advantage of a 58mm throttle body, you may want to have this modified before you install it on your motor and find out it won't work as you expected.

Don't even have a throttle body to put on yet. Once I do have one in my hands, I'll be opening it up.

You really don't need a 58mm TB unless your going to have some serious supporting mods.

Re: New project for my car

Looks like it is a 95 up if its out of a camaro because the oil sending unit is on the back of the motor 93 and 94 where above the oil filter IIRC.

Cartman,

The motor looks pretty clean but to avoid what I'm going through be sure to take your time and check over everything thoroughly. Before I started my swap I replaced mostly all of the sensors. By doing this I thought that I would be okay. However, I overlooked the mechanic stuff since the engine only had about 50K on it.

What are you plans for the motor? Heads, cam?

Good luck,
JAy

The friend that sold me this engine wants to use me as a guinea pig to see what works and what doesn't. So if the 58mm doesn't work out, I'll go smaller and either keep or sell the 58mm

The box the computer came in has all kinds of new sensors. Found out this engine only has 20k miles on it but I will be pulling the main and rod caps off just to have a peek. A cam will be swapped in but the heads are staying. Might get them ported or at least port match to the intake. In stock form, they seem to work pretty well. Here's a video of the friend's stock eliminator car, no setup done for track conditions. Click Here. The second car is mine first time out with a carb that I'm not using anymore, didn't work out.

Re: New project for my car

Using the 58 shouldn't have any negative impacts but will also likely not yield any positive benefits if you do not make other modifications such as possibly some head work and a good cold air charge system

Re: New project for my car

I'll have a looksy over there. My friend has done a lot of little tricks to his engines all within the rules of his class and it's amazing what he's getting out of them.
