LT1 oil?

Okay the motor that is in my 87IROC is bored .030 over etc (mods in sig) what kind of oil do you guys run to keep the pressure up? I dont know if it is just the gauge but it sits at about the top of the red line when idle. then mid like 100-200 when crusing. I was told the LT1 guys are using 0W30?

Also how did you guys that didnt run a oil cooler loop the lines from the top of the filter. I dont like the way it was setup on my Lt1.

Re: LT1 oil?

I can answer the oil question.. I run either redline 10-30w or the german castrol synthetic 5-30w, or used to, when engine is broken in I will again..

When you say 100-200 what do you mean? not psi right?

Re: LT1 oil?

I broke my engine in with standard 10w30 Castrol, then after that switched to 10w30 Syntec.

LT1's inherently run low oil pressure anyway for some odd reason. What kind of oil filter are you using? I know that K&N filters will show low pressure because it flows the oil more than any of the others keeping pressure off of the system.

Re: LT1 oil?

I used to run 10w30 Mobil 1 in my 96 WS6 along with a PF35L(PF1218 now). When the pickup fell off and it spun the #4 rod bearing, I looked over the short block. It was super clean and you couldn't see any wear on anything. That was at 46K miles. Thankfully I got a new crate LT1 under warranty

That doesn't make any sense, since the pressure is measured after the oil filter.

Re: LT1 oil?

Everyone I've talked to that run a K&N filter says their oil pressure dropped *shrug* someone at the race track stated that was because of the flow through the filter was greater, therefore it didn't build up the pressure behind the filter than it does on a regular filter.
