LS1 Y-Pipe
First post ever on this forum =]
First of ive done alot of research on a ls1 swap so im pretty much confident i can do everything required i work at a classic car restoration shop for a living for god sake lol. Ive had my gen 3 for yrs mostly sitting in the garage bieng restored. Well ive finally decided on the ls1 swap and the only thing I havent seen any clear information on are step by step pictures, is the fabbing on the Y-pipe and the 02 bungs etc. Im sure i could bend pipe at the shop and weld and hope it fits right the first time but its always nice too have mesurments are at least some pictures of someone who has done the fab before hand so if anyone has links to a post that conerncs this are can give me more information on this i would greatly appreciate it. (and yes i have seen the pre-made ones but thats money i can use too build the ls1 too more "desirable hp" especially when u can do the work urself)

Re: LS1 Y-Pipe
Measurements for a Y-pipe are not going to help you much as each if us basically has built our own design from scratch to fit whatever cross member we have. Drews was making nice C members for a while that some of us run but I think hes pulled a disappearing act these days. Anyways heres a couple of threads with some links.. I'd steer mighty clear of that Hawks Y pipe which you seem to already know about. The Hawks headers are very sweet pieces though if you plan on a header swap. Most of us run a 2.5" or 3" y into a 3-4" catback. Good luck

Re: LS1 Y-Pipe
X2 on what both of these guys said. Stay away from the pre-made hawks y-pipe. Nothing but trouble. Skulte makes a nice xmember. Since you work at a shop, you might want to just give making your own a try. I made my own xmember and y-pipe and I think it turned out pretty good. And others have had similar sucess. Ive learned that sometimes its better to just make things yourself then try to track down something aftermarket. If you have an angle grinder and a welder, the possibilities are endless! haha.
Good luck!

Re: LS1 Y-Pipe
I have a Spohn crossmember with adjustable torque arm with the x member torque arm relocation from the tranny to the x member for my LS1 swap in my 1991 Z28. Has anyone had a problem getting a y pipe around Spohns crossmember?

Re: LS1 Y-Pipe
not really a problem to make one, it just hangs low. a friend of mine owns a muffler shop and he spent alot of time on it. we did use some 180 degree u-bends to make it though. that crossmember needs some changes to make it better to run exhaust
