LT1 cam help

Trying to figure out what cam to buy for my 93 lt1 swap project. As of now the heads are stock, but plan on doing a mild port to them. What would be a good choice for a cam? LT4 hotcam? cc305? cc306? Looking to get at least 350hp to the wheels.

Re: LT1 cam help

Of those the one that will get you above 350 will be the cc306.. the others may get you close. CC305s seem to run around 330 cam only with full bolt-ons.

Remember all the supporting team: springs, retainers, seats, rockers, etc.. etc..

Do you want it to be mild or an animal? Do you want to get it tuned, run bigger injectors, and a bigger throttle body?

what is the budget?

Check out www.eportworks.com also, for head/cam power packages it is almost a no-brainer.

Re: LT1 cam help

Lloyd dose the best work IMO. I talked to him with the cam I chose cc503 on his LE1 heads. He said the 503 would make about 10-15 less hp than his LE1 cam.

Re: LT1 cam help

looking for something in between mild and animal. It's not going to be a daily driver, so I guess I could lean more towards animal.

Things I already have: 58mm bbk throttle body,AFPR,underdrive pully, 1 5/8 shorty headers, 3200 stall in the 700r4.

Have a guy local that is going to do a mild port to the stock heads...plan on getting a custom tune from Ed Wright. My goal is for it to run mid 12's.

Re: LT1 cam help

Different definitions, I would say mine is streetable others would say it is extreme.. still some would say mild.

I would probably get the cc305 or comp xe grind 224/230 at .050 if going off the shelf, or a LE1 from eportworks. That should be good..

When the heads are getting done have them install some PAC 1018 beehive springs with the new seats (you don't need the 1518s), retainers, locks (10degree), get some nice hardened pushrods from thunderracing.com and pro-magnum 1.6 rockers and you are set. May want to upgrade to 30lb svo red top injectors while you are at it just for a bit more room to grow..

That should do it, a nice streetable 350 or 350+

Re: LT1 cam help

The cc503 cam might be worth looking at also...it will give you a little more power than the LT4 hot cam and has a noticeably lopier idle.

Re: LT1 cam help

I'm going to say the Comp XFI series of cams, more lift, not as much LSA that the 306 or 305 has, but puts the powerband back into managble ranges. The 306 comes in around 3k and pulls to about 8k where the XFI series comes in around 2k and pulls to 6500 for the same power.

Plus, if you haven't already started wiring, you may be better off doing a conversion to '94-'95 wiring/PCM and swapping the opti for a vented one as well (the '93s you have to still burn chips instead of being a flash)
