Hello im new to this site aswell as swapping v8s
i have swapped alot of hondas(my profession) and a few fords(i hate) but never a chevy v8
i have descided after 4 yrs of my 1st car (91 camaro rs 305 conv.) sitting and 15 cars later to drop in an lt1 because the old 305 is done
to the point: i picked up a full lt1 swap out of a junkyard(i plan to break down and rebuild) it was removed from a 95 chevy caprice lt1 wagon and has the 4l60e tranny/ecu an all the harness down to the passanger side kickpanel......
my 91 camaro rs has the stock 305tbi still fully installed in it untouched.....
where do i start and yes i want to keep the lt1 tpi injection/cruise contol/ac/ps/etc. i want it to have all the factory comforts with alot more power ...
i cant find any complete info on how to swap a 95 gen 2 lt1 into a 91 camaro rs please help.....
i can probably get the motor in the car but wiring and i heard something about the speedo not working an yes the caprice had a digital dash an my camaro doesent... and also my car has vats key

Re: Need Help swapping 95 caprice lt1 into 91 camaro rs
I see this is from March so I don't know if you will get this or not but I will reply anyway. I am currently doing almost the same swap except I am keeping the 4L60E and my engine is from a 95 Z28 (aluminum heads). As far as the wiring goes, you need to get the original wiring diagram for your car http://www.fastgm.com/wiring/ and the wiring diagram for the 95 https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...g-dummies.html . in this article you will need to scroll near the bottom, you will find many diagrams in the beginning of the arcticle but none of these worked for me. If you scroll down you will find links to jpeg files that are very accurate. In the first link (for the 91 wiring) you will need to make sure you only use the pages that are for VIN E cars, which should be what you have if it is TBI. With both of these diagrams you should be able to do the swap wiring very easily. Now to the good part! since you have a 95 LT1 (IMHO the best due to flash OBDI) which is OBDI but flash programmable (No chips) you can buy or make an ALDL to USB cable http://www.akmcables.com/ic.htm and then get the software http://www.carputing.com/ . You can also have someone else program it for you but you will have to pay them every time you make a change. The choice is up to you. There is also another peice of software out there that will do the same thing but is more expensive but i think it may be a little more user friendly. Personally, I think if you can't use LT1_Edit you probably should let someone else do the programming (YOU CAN DESTROY THE COMPUTER IF YOU DO IT WRONG !!!!). The software will let you remove the VATS system, air pump, and anything else you want to get rid of, not to mention you can program all of you timing curves, VE tables (not so important with MAF), and adjust for engine mods. Other than that, only one other major change is neccissary. If you are keeping the AC, you must buy a relocation kit http://www.marchperf.com/pg17.html because the factory AC will not fit around the motor mounts in your 91. That is all you need that I know of so far. If you are still around, or if someone else needs info, I will update this as I finish the project.
Thanks,
Rick

Wow, sorry about missing this. That was a busy time in my life.
Welcome aboard thirdgen.org to both of you.
I've moved this to the subforum that addresses LTx and LSx swaps in particular. diablorick covered most of it, you should also check the LT1 swap sticky in the top section of this forum.
