THM200C to 4L60E

Hey guys,

I finally got under my car and got the trans code ........ sure enough its a THM200C with a driveshaft that is 3 ft 6" long.
On the side one day I decided to find out in a rather crude way(I didnt have Jacks yet)..... If I got a limited slip or posi on my rear diff......

I has happy with the following results...

But Since I had the wheels up in the air, I turned them around ......bumb..... only one wheel turns at a time and I can even turn the 2 wheels in different directions at the same time. I couldnt find the code plate or stamp on the rear end. Probably covered by mud and oil or rusted away.

Back to brainstorming.....

So far I figured that I would need
1. Late 3th gen or early 4th gen driveshaft
2. Spohn LSX torque arm or Late 3th gen or early 4th gen torq arm.

The consern I have is

The TH200C console and shift lever has only 1-2-D. I would like to keep my console, shift lever and ****. How can this be mated with the 4L60E which has OD. I never seen inside the console box so dont know what all is involved in telling the trans if I am in 1st,2nd,D or OD.
Or does the 4L60E really dont care what position on the console the lever is in and it shifts from D-OD based on rpm, TP or similar.

Since I have to change everything till the end of the driveshaft......and I dont have disc brakes, or posi... I was leaning towards a 4th gen rear diff.

Again the concern I have is this might force me to change my stock wheels. I have stock 15" turbo wheels. I did find a thread here that discussed wheel size and rear axle combinations but there was nothing on this one

Any comments/suggestions is really appriciated.

I really love this site, I was able to make decisions and research and develop a plan for my LSX swap compared to what I did in the last 6 months.

You will need a 4-speed automatic shifter. You may be able to keep the 3-speed shifter, but you won't be able to shift it into first.

I'm not completely sure about the early Firebird consoles (having been burnt buying a stick shift cover/boot that turns out to not fit Camaros), but a regular TH700 3rd gen shifter should fit or be able to fit. I swapped the one from my '86 donor car into the '82, it required some modification, but it did work. You may have to swap over the entire later console - I'm just not sure.

Another alternative would be to get an aftermarket shifter like a B&M Megashifter.

Re: THM200C to 4L60E

Has anybody used this or something similar. The discription looks promising. I have not been able to get a hold of the company yet if this will work with a THM200C shifter and 4L60E transmission.

Here's the discription : Part #: SC2262
Use your factory-installed shifter with a newer overdrive transmission. This conversion kit includes a new laser-cut and hardened detent, lens adaptor and all the hardware and brackets needed for use of the original cable.
