LT1 custom header question?
I am planning a LT1 swap...i was looking at headers, i saw that my options were very limited...at first i was thinking of the BBK shorty headers for the LT1...but they are short headers...i am looking for a long tube...i have heard of the hedman headers for the LT1, and am liking them...but i also saw some weld up headers from hedman, do you think 2" primaries would be too big for a 396ci LT1? will the shape be a problem with the D-shaped ports? or are they too big to matter what shape the port is?
all in all...
which ones would you use...
I am liking weld up ones, but do not know if they would be counterproductive...
Thanks in advance

Re: LT1 custom header question?
Are you looking at the HED-68460? The headders for the 4th gen wont work. mabey someone with LT'S will chime in with a better headder. You will need aleast a 1 5/8 primary and It has a 3 in collector. Dont bother with the 2in. BTW aren't you pushing it abit with a 396??

Re: LT1 custom header question?
i do not think so...a lot of people make kits to get 396ci...it is a 3.875" stroke, and .04 over, its actually like 397.something...
if those do not require any work to make them fit, i like them...and cheap too...
but with a 396 i have heard of people using stock heads and getting near 500 horses at the crank...

Re: LT1 custom header question?
None of the 4th gen headers will work in a 3rd gen car. You'll need to look at standard SBC headers made for 3rd gens for them to fit, d-port headers (made for angle plugs) will be the best for it. You can find 1-3/4 primaries in long tubes made for angle plugs, you may want to check Dyno Dons to see if he has any that will work and make it easy to change the plugs
