Starter Issues with a Gen 2 350
Starter Issues with a Gen 2 350
Ok...help a concerned, pregenent, wife, help her her streesed husband solve his starter issue so he work on the nursery. The problem is as follows:
My husband has a generation 2 350 in a 87 Camaro with a worn starter. He purchased a reman starter from Auto Zone. When he placed the reman starter into the car, the gear would engage but stick in the teeth of the flex plate regardless of how he shimmed the starter. It would also stick in the teeth of the flex plate with the proper gag settings. The old starter worked but was worn and slow. Therefore, one would assume it is not the engine. Any suggestions or input anyone would have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Congrats on the upcoming new family member. Gotta get that nursery done!
Most of the time this is a shimming problem. But, sounds like that's been covered.
Is it only sticking when the engine starts? By any chance does the car have a remote starter solenoid? It would have to have been added. Sometimes permanent magnet starters act like a generator when you tie the solenoid to the motor like you do with a remote solenoid.
If none of those add up, sounds like a bad starter. Autozone will most likely exchange it.
