Hey guys, im putting a lq4 into my 91 z28 and i was planning to put a single front mount turbo in front of the engine and radiator. I dont have the lq4 in yet and i was looking at the tpi in there now and i was worried about the manifolds clearing the gearbox. By the way i was planning to flip the manifolds forward and set it up to that way, but like i said im worried about the gearbox, im not using a/c so im not worried about that and if the fans are in the way i'll just mount a pusher fan in front of the radiator. What do you guys with an lsx swap think, is there room for a turbo in front? Thanks for any input.

 

It wont work. The 4th gen LSx guys flip the truck manifolds, but they crash into our subframes & gear box (I tried), the LS1 manifolds pointed backwards crash into the engine mounts.

Dont think the GTO ones would work and vette's certainly wont. your stuck with turbo headers IMO

 

What if i was to use a tubular k member , or flip the manifolds forward and up? Would the gearbox still be in the way? Does anyone have any up close engine bay pics so i can get some ideas. thanks

 

You could flip them up but they would be barely an inch from the hood and it certainly wouldnt give enough room to run a pipe off & down.

Tubular K wont solve anything as its the subframes that are the main problem.

I found this thread. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ighlight=turbo I dont really care for the way he has it set up but it looks like he's got the driver side reversed without interefering with the gear box. And the pass. side it looks like he just modified so he could run the downpipe beside it. All this is discouraging me of going this way and i dont really want to make up headers. Im also tempted to just slap a procharger on it, but i know if a turbo can be done it would be cheaper.
