Looking for a few opinions
Hey Everyone.
Well, lately, my life has been taking all kinds of unexpected sh!tty turns. From things with girls, Money for college & my car, and now ive been in an accident that ive gotta pay repairs on.
I bought an LS1 block for my iroc, and now im not going to be able to afford to build it, so ill probably re-assemble the 5.3L and re-use it.
Question here guys. Im trying to determine if i should be using the 4L65e that ive got, or convert the car to a T56?
If i keep the car, i want it as a 6spd, but i may not be able to keep it, so im trying to determine if a 6spd will really attract more buyers then an auto?
Thanks!
Sheldon

Well what I did.. I went to collage put my car in storage.. Finished school and started making money than built my car. You can't juggle building a car and paying for collage. Have fun.

Well, given the way you've described the situation, I would STRONGLY suggest that you keep the 4L65e that you already have. Right off the top of my head, I can think of two reasons for that -
First, collecting the parts & doing the work to install the T56 is going to take resources that would be better spent in the process of digging out of whatever situation(s) you're in. If you get the T56, you'll need to get things like pedals, pilot bushing/bearing, clutch, flywheel, hydraulics, etc, etc, etc. Between the cost & the time, there's no way you'd get your costs back out of it.
My second reason is a lot simpler - a number of people can't drive a stick
so you'd be making your pool of potential buyers smaller.
Good luck man.

Thing here is, i have the T56 sitting beside the car, with the LS7 clutch, flywheel, got a pilot bearing at work i can use, hydraulics all sitting beside ready for installation so the main thing is whether its worth it.
Im figuring that yeah, everyone can drive an auto, but the flipside to that is, someone who would want an LSx iroc-z would likely be a performance enthusiast, and i find 95% of use performance guys, like shifting gears. Espeically if its a cruiser car.
The big thing for me is, if i ended up keeping the car, id prefer a 6spd. I just love the 6spd's and id love a standard car. Not to mention a better overdrive, id be able to make up for a possible cam install and get great fuel milage (25 - 28 highway w/ a Tr230 cammed 5.3L)
Ive got alot of thinking to do for this car. Its causing me alot of stress, but im hopeful that ill figure it out. It would break my heart to see the thing drive away in someone else's hands

Re: Looking for a few opinions
OK, gotcha. So, given what you've just said, here's my suggestion:
Keep the M6 stuff, get the pilot bearing & anything else you'll need, & keep it all close by. If you *have to* sell the car (God forbid, but you 'hope for the best & plan for the worst', right?), then you can also offer that up if someone prefers the M6 option - that way you have your bases covered for all of the possibilities (buyer wants an auto/buyer wants a stick/you don't have to sell).
Once your situation is a bit less murky, then you can make an informed decision - in the meantime, you have the option of using whatever free time you have to maybe earn a bit more cash to clear things up a bit more quickly.
Best of luck.

Re: Looking for a few opinions
i thought i was getting married, race car went into storage, now its getting a full on resto because it didn't work out. but anyway, leave the car as it is, and restart the modding later. ps: let me know how the TR230 works in that 5.3, mine might be sold but the deal isn't sealed
