thinking about purchasing a new complete 5.3 engine with stock truck intake already installed and included. ive read that the truck intake is too tall, but i am thinking about purchasing a cowl hood anyways. will cowl hoods clear the intake and how high will it need to be? please anybody that has pictures of this, would you post it? thanks.

 

i put a 6.0 in my formula, and just for kicks i set the truck intake on and ran a piece of tape across the fenders at the tb to see how close it would be. the truck dbw tb was maybe an inch above the tape, with no alternator or anything there. the intake without the tb there looked like it would be ok, but i didn't try to put the hood back on to verify that at all. i think with a 2-3" cowl it would have fit, if the cowl started at the front edge of the hood and got to that 2-3" before the throttlebody.

 

I just dropped my 2000 5.3L into my Camaro and I kept the stock truck intake and accessory braket w/o ac and it cleared my Hardwood 4" Fiberglass hood. the only spot that the accessories come close to is on the alternator and even then it's only about an inch away. So if you use a cowl hood at least 3" you can use the truck intake and the truck accessories.
