'02 LS1 Manifolds - Asymetrical?

Well obviously the 2002 LS1 manifolds are different from left to right, but what I want to know is why they use a different pipe size left to right? I measured mine, one looks like a 2.5" pipe and the other side looks like 2.25". Is there a reason for this? I am going to be making a custom exhaust pretty much from the flanges back so what size pipe should I use on the flanges? Is 2.5" alright for both sides?

By the way, I just got my AN fittings and stainless braided line for my conversion fuel lines and I must say, this is my first time using AN fittings but I love them already!
