Will there be a problem with speedo?
Im planning on installing an eaton posi and 3.73 gears into my car this spring I know how to correct my speedo by replacind the speedo gears in the tailshaft of my stock tranny. However im hopping by the end of summer to have an LT1 and 4L60e tranny installed. My question is what will i have to do to get my speedo working correctly...Ive been told that with dropping in the 460le i wont have to do anything....but I want to be certain before i do this.
Thanks
Thanks

Get the correct gears for the 4L60

The LT1/4L60E has a magnetic VSS. You change gears by tuning the PCM for it
Your stock 4L60 is hydraulically controlled with converter lockup in the ECM. The 4L60E is completely controlled by the PCM. While externally similar and sharing most of the internal components, the transmissions are not directly interchangeable from a function perspective

Re: Will there be a problem with speedo?
There are two gears associated with 3rd gen VSS
Drive and driven
Drive is on the output shaft of the transmission. You must remove the tailhousing to access this one

The driven slips over your VSS and pops back in there

The ones with the plastic shaft attached are for cable driven VSS', you cant use these
To use the chart, first pick your gearing. In your case 3.73. Next measure the diameter of your rear tires. Assuming you're stock, thats 28" or so. Find the 3.73 section and move down until you find your tire height in the second column. Then you will see the driven gear tooth count, 40 tooth in this case. Look at the top of the chart to see what drive gear you need
Google tire calculator if you want a precise measure of your tire diameter based on the numbers on the sidewall
