Engine Management Dilemma

So... been a while since I pulled this project out of the dust. Since then some things have changed, and newer technologies have risen. I own HP tuners with tons of credits and I do my own tuning with a fair to moderate ability. I also have a harness for my vehicle setup to accept a modified dual boot LS1 Camaro computer. My dilemma is, I feel I may have outgrown the limits of the factory computer. There are injector drivers and patches that can be worked around, but I am really questioning if that is the road I am wanting to head down or not. I am seriously leaning towards a BS3 setup with a Racepack HU. They are an expensive initial expense, I have absolutely ZERO tuning ability with this management suite, and most likely would have to pay (again) for someone to do an initial tune on the vehicle until I round' the learning curve required.

Give me your thoughts. There are ton of guys making big power with the factory ECU... Do you think the BS3 would be a worthwhile investment?

Thanks, Jason

Re: Engine Management Dilemma

why not consider upgrading to a GM E67 controller vs your older LS1 controller if you want something with a little more capability... you have then direct ability for enhanced sensor ranges for MAF for boost, etc and larger programming area that is already supported for bigger injectors, etc

You can utilize your prior experience and software you already have as it is fully supported by HP Tuners

Re: Engine Management Dilemma

I have given it a thought a few times. I guess it's still not a bad Idea. I would need to pick up a new harness and change out a few pin-outs to graph my current harness and the new harness together. I would have to do this for the BS3 as well so the amount of work involved is about the same.

What is involved with removing the DBW functionality so I can keep my cable controls?

Re: Engine Management Dilemma

Upgrading your harness isnt nearly as important if you dont do the 58x reluctor as well. Seriously this is the key upgrade the electronics are not a massive leap forward from the older LSx 24x based systems. Think about it you get 3 points of reference per rotation to calculate from with a 28x. Allow for margin of error when your trying to dial in a spark/fuel curve perfectly and then apply that to one bit per ever 120 degrees?

Then do the same math with a 58x and you have one bit per every 60 degrees. much much better.
