4L60e experts chime in please
Ok, guys I have a delimma that I need some serious help with. I have a 1999 Tahoe 5.7 4L60e (late) with the 2-piece bellhousing and six bolt tailshaft. I thought it was from a V6 astrovan, but confirmed it was a 99 tahoe 5.7.
I recently found out that since this transmission was on a Gen II vortec engine it uses the older style input shaft. I call this a hybrid because it looks like the 1998-and up F-body and 2000+ Truck tranmsissions but has a mix of old in it because of the input shaft.
In order for this to bolt to my 2004 Vortec Gen III engine I needed to purchase the GM spacer and longer bolts for the flywheel.
I started the installation earlier and noticed that when I tighten my tranny to the engine, the torque converter is binding against the flex plate....now before you say that my TC isn't in all the way, it is- I double checked it. No sheared pumps here
I loosened the bolts and backed the tranny about 1/8" away from the block and installed my flexplate bolts, but when i tighten the bolts down it binds up again....I can't even turn my engine at the harmonic balancer.
So my question is, is it possible that there could be some bellhousing variations between the early one-peice 4L60e tranny and the later two-piece 4L60e with the old style input shaft?
Maybe I didn't need the spacer since it was a V8 tranny?
Need some help with this and any guidance would be great.

A fully seated TC that binds when the bellhousing is bolted to the block means the flex is too close. Lose the adapter
When you bolt it on the next time check how much the TC needs to pull forward to bolt to the flexplate. Newer trans seem to be much tighter than older ones as the TC should be 1/4" or so away from the flex when fully inserted into the pump

i have a feeling that the torque convertor is not fully seated in the transmission, but i have been wrong before...
