Re: My LS3 Swap

ive search online, and found no answer so here it goes..

my questions can i get a t56 to bolt up to the ls3?

if so can i use the ls7 clutch kit?

ive heard i need a ls1 pilot bearing..

can i use the ls3 flywheel or does it nees to be a ls2?

will my mini starter still work from summit racing SUM-820320 ?

will this stater even work with a ls3?

any other suggestions/input would be greatly appericiatted

Re: My LS3 Swap

As far as I am aware, the transmission connectivity is the same between all GEN III V-8's with the exception of the Iron Head 6.0's which have a longer crank snout. Since your LS3 doesn't have this problem, it should be able to use the LS7 clutch kit as you are thinking. You can use the LS1 Pilot bearing, but I've also heard of others like Ghettocruiser using a pilot bushing, I believe he requested one from a 1969 Camaro even, but he'll have to verify that. I can certainly see the advantage of using a pilot pushing over a bearing, and that is: Strength. The flywheel should be the same from what I understand.

Not sure on the starter, if it is for Gen III GM V8, I'd imagine it would work. Nearly all parts are interchangeable between the engines, though there are some intake differences, for example: LS3/L92 style intakes will not work properly with LS1-LS2-LQ4-LM7-LQ9 etc heads.

Re: My LS3 Swap

I support this swap, emotionally not financially, lol... people out of the state of california need to realize that our ba**s are in a vice by the smog ***** of the EPA ... there are many factors and scenarios one must take into account when planning out an engine swap.... the LS1 with a T56 is going for about 3K or so, that's if you're lucky I would imagine, but what happens if you drop it in and bam engine is shot, you're looking roughly at around 3K for a rebuild, even more if you have shop do all of your work.. then comes the harness, speartech lists them at around 1K, then comes the smog equipment, as far as I know they're pricey... the LS3 crate alone runs 6100 dollars .. the LS3 Erod package runs 7600... if you ask me, my opinion is you get peace of mind and a kick *** engine as well as the relaxing biannual trips to the smog station, rather than the scare sh**less trips of whether it is or isn't going to pass the good ol' sniffer test...

check out this company

www.speartech.com

go to the company projects, in phase 3 they put an ls9 supercharger on a gen III/IV motor and its in a 91 z28.

if you check phase 2, that is the exact build up im doing.

here is the thread on ls1tech. if you skip to the last page there are videos of the car on the dyno and at the track!!!

Re: My LS3 Swap

when you mount the CATS could you post up some pics, please... I am in the development phase of trying to gather as much info as possible... I have plans of going with true dual exhaust either using hushpower or LM2, I was thinking of the Spiral by Moroso, but I think they may be too loud... also what crossmember are you going with? are you doing a custom job?

Its just a TVS 2300. Magnuson puts them on the 2010 camaros all the time. Since the LS9 is essentially a LS3 with a few benefits, the maggy kit on the camaro is a poor man's LS9

LS9 also gets forged internals and oil squirters and such that make it quite a bit better than even a forged ls3 with the same blower on top. Not worth 22k by any means tho..

Pedals wont matter, besides the slave cylinder rod mounting on the third gen pedals. Just takes a little enginering on the third gen pedals.

it is clean when i bought it, it came like that. that right when i cut the plastic off too get the picture, i was really suprised and the pic is bad quailty its from a camera phone only if ihad my camera it would look crisper. as far as mile ibelieve around 20-30k not too bad i thinlk for an 06 model.

the shifter cup i did order and the mgw short shift. i ordered the mgw cuz i read alot of good things from ls1 tech about it and figured id give it a try, and the customer service was great it should be shipping out on 12/06 i order it on friday. a link to the shifter

http://www.mgwltd.com/camaro_short_throw_shifter.shtml

as far as the bellhousing i going to use it and the starter hopfully i can get a mini starter from summit or something . have u came across a mini starter that might work tpi terr? why is everthing for the gto so damn hard too find, is it bcuz thier not making the ls2 anymore?

V6/V8 pedals are the same, read over the picture explosion thread before you go for a 4th gen set. 3rd gen pedals fit better and only require moving the peg over

Re: My LS3 Swap

in reference to your "pedals" questions...

the LS3 is drive by wire... all 98-02 camaros are cable driven throttle bodies..

if you plan on keeping the drive by wire..you are going to need a set of pedals that are for drive by wire..

or do it the easy way and just get a cable drive throttle body and save yourself a huge headache..

the block is a stronger alloy as well, i was reading about the LS9 block in GM hightech... the LSA is the basic LS3 6.2 block with the same charger.. which is why they only push 556hp through it, instead of the 620hp LS9..

The lsa,3,9 are all 6.2 in size but the lsa an ls9 have super charger they all have a different camshaft. The ls3 lift 551/522 durtion 204/211 the lsa lift 492/480 duration 198/216 and the ls9 lift 562/558 duration 211/230.

Re: My LS3 Swap

i used a fourth Gen lower hose. I did not like the f250 hose at all. The fourth Gen hose requires some die electric grease and muscle to get on but is a much cleaner looking install. I did not want to use worm clamps which is why I didn't use the 250 hose.

I thought the LS9 got the TVS2300 while the LSA got the TVS1900? I didn't know the LSA block was just the LS3 (not that it matters, it has been pushed to over 1500 anyway).

I'd install a Tick Performance speed bleeder if I were you (and if you haven't already). It makes bleeding the clutch much easier and you can do it by yourself in about 2 minutes start to finish.

The tick performance speed bleeder is a great thing... i would definitely go this route, it will save you a lot of time and headaches when you 1st bleed your system and then thereafter when you change the fluid

not at the moment when the motor comes out to weld it i will take some. i cut it for clearance for the oil pan and dont have the money for the tubular k-member. i didnt want to buy just the k-member and waste money and have to buy one later, my plan was to go with the coil over set-up and at 1400 bucks i just dont have it now. so i didnt want to buy one for the stock set-up and later have to buy another.

Re: My LS3 Swap

I know with spohn's k member you can use either the stock spring pocket a-arms or their coilover a-arms depending on which suspension you use, the k member itself is the same though.

Also, if you search under my username for "pedals" or "peg" you'll find a thread I made on making the third gen pedals work with the master cylinder rod, it's an easy and cheap fix.

thanks for the input on the pedals really apperciate it

but i know the spohn k-member is stock or coil over but i didnt want to buy one for the stock set up and later buy another for the coil over so i just cut it, call it practice i guess. plus the money is not there right now i can always do it later.
