Transmission question

I have a line on a 1996 T-56 from an LT1 car. I know that the trans front plate, and input shaft can be replaced to make it work with an LSX, but if I got a 1999-2000 Truck motor which has a longer output snout, and the appropriate bellhousing can the LT T-56 be used?

Re: Transmission question

Pretty sure you are correct there, 99-00 6.0L Truck motor with Iron heads, but then again I'm not positive. I'm just curious if I can bolt up the LTX T56 with the correct bellhousing.

Re: Transmission question

The clutch setup is different on the LT1 trans vs the LS1 trans, best bet is to pick up an LS1 T56 and use it. I have a friend who owns an LS performance shop and he was looking into converting a T56 he had just rebuilt for an 6.0 and found out it was going to be more of a headache to do so he sold the LT1 T56 and put a normal LS1 T56 in the car.

LT1 clutch setup, flywheel and Slave/master cylinder unit

LS1 Clutch setup and slave cylinder/Throwout bearing (this is actually the LS7 setup, which is better)

Re: Transmission question

The killer there is the fact that the LT uses a different clutch/Slave/Throwout. Finding decent priced T-56's for LS-1s has become an annoying search for me. I've found plenty of engine possibilities, but I guess I'm only really shopping as my purchasing ability has been placed on hold till my son arrives in October! I'll probably get the rest of the car ready and running, including a clutch etc basically everything required except for the T-56, then sell the '95 formy and use the cash to buy the T-56 hehe. We'll see! Thanks for your answer Klortho and 1ADan!
