Shes ready to fire up!!!

Finally got everything I need in the car right now to get it going. My buddy is going to throw a quick tune on the 411 tomorrow and we'll see what happens on wed or thursday. Anything I should look for when firing it up?

While I was add it I got a little older and wiser and threw back in the ac. It was out for the last 10 years but I kinda like it cool lol. Its TIGHT in there. Clears the truck coils by about 1/4 inch.

Gotta make a nice CAI for it , but I'm not that worried yet. I'm running a SD only tune for now. I wired in a 5 wire maf connector though JIC. I'm running an external IAT.

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

I'd keep an eye on your coolant level and coolant temperature, you may have to purge it. Also keep an eye on the fans and make sure they come on at the temperature that you have them set at in your tune and don't forget to fill the power steering reservoir or else it will whine at you. I have a Tech II so I was able to manually turn on fan 1 and fan 2 so that was pretty neat. Keep an eye out for any oil, coolant, or fuel leaks. Car looks awesome man, good job

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

I could not get the car coils to clear the AC box, only the truck coils would.

I've read a lot of threads regarding car coils hitting and truck coils clearing but I have not been able to find any related pics showing exactly what the interference with the a/c box is and why the truck coils clear. Do you have any up-close pics of your clearance you can post? I'd be appreciative.

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

Here you go, i broke a truck coil and used a car coil temporary and it is in the back in this pic, you can see how the truck coils mount the wire lower, the car is higher, where the car coil mounts the wire you cannot get a wire on because it sits against the AC box and there is no way to make it work otherwise without some fabrication.

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

Okay, I believe the fog is beginning to clear. I went digging for some images so I could verify.

If I understand correctly from what you said and what I can see of that temporary #7 coil on your car the car coil's wire tower sit taller away from the valve cover as it looks here:
Name: LS1_coils_car.jpg
Views: 40
Size: 29.9 KB

But the truck coil wire tower is lower next to the cover as these appear:

Size: 25.7 KB

Yes/No?

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

BTW I apologize for the hijack. I was gawking at the clean engine in that clean white engine bay and imagining that mine will look similar If I do all my homework and take the necessary time to do it right. My Z28 is white and A/C is mandatory so I want to have this clearance issue taken care of before install day. That is what prompted the question and deviation from the thread.

Nice looking install. Congrats...

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

The second set of coils posted are the LS2 coils. Cars and trucks used them. Ive got GREAT clearance all around with them and I think they look the best

+1 on the 3rd gen cables fitting PERFECTLY. I like the Lo3 cables because they're larger and dont have any extra connectors sticking out like the V6/TPI ones do

On the initial start, make sure you've got oil in it (almost forgot that tonite). If the fuel system primes you should be golden. Remember to keep and eye on the temp gauge, LSx are sometimes fussy about air in the system

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

Oh it primed. I disconnected the fuel rail from the fitting and put it in a jar. Took about 4 tries of the pump going and then fuel came out with some junk. Spitted then a nice stream. I figured, might as well clean out the lines from working on them and so forth. Then installed the line and primed and bled them out though the bleeder. some puffs of air then all fuel. I cranked it tongiht with the packs disconnected and it cranked over fine. Both coils have power to them when the ign is on so thats good. IAC moved when I turned the ign on so thats good. I have to take the pcm tomorrow to get an initial tune. Only tune on it now was when I had my 383 OBD II running on the express van tune for SBC's.

That tells me clearance won't be a problem then...

In case anyone is wondering there is now an LS2/T56 sitting in a corner of my garage. Been there for the last month actually. I am in the early stages of project process planning. I will be starting a thread on it soon.

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

IT STARTS AND RUNS !!!!

I got back today from teh guy throwing a tune on teh ecm just to get it going. Install it and turn the key and it instantly starts then died after 5 seconds. After it died I hear a ton of fluid hitting the garage floor. I'm like WTF.... I get out and I forgot to attach the rubber line to the tranny cooler. Nice 50 gallons of Dextron 6 on the round. I install that and go to fire again. Again, it dies after 5 seconds. The i get a wiff of a ton of gas.... Not good. Check all my braided lines. No issues. Here, the number 1 injector was leaking like mad where it attaches to the fuel rail...... Everything is new so I was shocked. ripped out that Injector and O ring and threw in a used O ring from my TPI injector I had laying around. Tossed it back together and she idles nice. Loud with open headers but It starts on a dime... I'm happy.

The first start is an awesome feeling of accomplishment. Dont feel bad about the trans line, everyone forgets a little thing or two on the first start

Re: Shes ready to fire up!!!

Perhaps a slightly off topic question, but do you know if it's possible to put the a/c box on the car once the engine is installed using the truck coils? I have often wondered about that, as I have contemplated putting a/c on my car, and I'm using the truck coils. I know it would be a super tight fit, but wasn't sure if it's possible to get it in with the engine in the car.
