5.3 weekend warrior build ideas
this is the concept: to take my smoking mildly modifyed 89 iroc 350 t5, into the high 11s low 12s, (ive ran 14.21 on the current street setup) but still be able to drive it to a back road so i can sling my girlfriend across the hood, or make a run to the bank on fridays
the off days for logging are coming on due to wet weather so the engine swap should be done by the start of spring
so far this is my swap idea: if you can come up with something better plz do tell, and tell me why to (im stubborn and seldom wrong)
Engine
5.3 vortec, some type of aftermarket cam/ valve springs/pushrods. ported 5.3 heads if i get lucky and get the good castings...milled ls6 heads if i dont. stock bottom end with maybe a set of flat top hyper pistons. ls6 intake throttle body, some injectors yet to be determined. frankinstein Homebrew swap headers (i have some good longtubes for a thirdgen, a mig welder and a cut off wheel and a torch, how hard could it be?)
Transmission
turbo 350 with a 3500 stall and a trans go kit for now (its built laying in my floor)
Rear end
to be determined (input appreciated) probably a cut down 9 inch from a donor truck with a 3:90 ratio and a mini spool
wheels and tires
skinneys up front with a 315x60 15 drag radial out back

Re: 5.3 weekend warrior build ideas
There are folks going high 11s with the stock 5.3 long block, one that i know of is carbed with just a cam. Very attainable.
So, if you go LS6 heads, even ported would do better, you can go mid 11s with the right combo, stock short block.
Otherwise, a 315/60/15 is too tall unless you are ready to do some cutting and welding.
The 325/50/15 is good to go though.
