Re: ls1
some corvettes had ls1s.
there are other LS engines that are very good too (which ones aren't).
many trucks have 5.3L which make pretty decent power.
then there are the 6.0L which a lot of people with LS1s switch over to. they can be found in Escalades, Correct me if i'm wrong someone, they can also be found in Tahoes, Yukons and maybe Suburbans.
if you get one from a truck, you need to get a car manifold seeing how the truck manifold sticks up too high. you can get an LS6 manifold for ~300 bucks. or an LS1 manifold for dirt cheap. both perform well, the LS6 just gives ~10rwhp.
you'll need the front acessories from an F-body as well.

Re: ls1
don't worry i am too, i still think all of that is voodoo. but yeah the intake+throttle body sit too high. you also have to replace the front accessories too.
a plus on the truck engines is that they're a dime a dozen and put out pretty decent power
*** 4.8L aren't necessarily out of the equation. they have the same bore as the 5.3L, the difference is the 5.3L have the same rods and crank as a the LS1

Re: ls1
You can have the truck harness re-pinned to whatever you want, so snag it if you can. Also the oil pan is too deep so you'll want one from an fbody also. There is a subforum in the engine swap area specifically for ltx and lsx swaps, I'm sure one of the mods will move this for you.

There is a sticky in the Engine Swap forum, and an identical sticky in the LTX and LSX sub-forum (where this now resides) that details the LSx swap into a 3rd gen f-body.
